The head of French diplomacy has hinted Monday he might resign in the event of conflict of interest

His companion Christine Ockrent was appointed by the Elysée to the direction of foreign broadcasting. An appointment is "a good choice," said the foreign minister, interviewed on France Inter.

The identity of the journalist has aroused controversy. The unions are worried the profession "of a conflict of interest."

They see a threat to the "credibility" of the new holding company umbrella France World channels TV5 Monde and France 24 as well as Radio France Internationale. A holding company which depend Matignon.

"If there were a conflict of interest, I will be the first to admit, I did not at all mêlerai audiovisual outside, I will make an oath," said chief diplomat. "I do not see why it is always the women who should resign," he added. "I think it will go very well, if it does not go well, I will be there to answer your criticisms and make the necessary decisions," he told journalists in France Inter.

"I think [Christine Ockrent] has a talent recognized international expertise indisputable. She worked in all television channels in the world. It is a good choice," said the minister. "I know very independent (...). For 26 years, she has not interviewed only once, and I believe it will continue," he assured.

The evocation of a possible resignation by Bernard Kouchner, Minister of "openness" from the Socialist Party, comes at a time when many rumours on a possible government reshuffle after the municipal elections.
