JOHANNESBURG

Sobrement dressed, bearing no jewel, little masked, Carla Bruni Sarkozy, the wife of President Nicolas Sarkozy, has played the discretion for his first official visit abroad, to Chad Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in South Africa.

The "first lady" of France, former model and singer known today, was interrupted for three days recording his third album to take its first steps diplomatic.

It's on the reserve throughout their journey - we saw several times Mr. Sarkozy attract it to him when the cameras turned - the young woman had the intention of finding a role alongside her husband.

"I support my husband in his movements and I hope to engage in humanitarian work. It helps a lot for it," said the press Friday Carla Bruni, 40 years.

Thursday, she chose to go into the township on the outskirts of Cape Town, Khayelitsha, from an NGO, Township Patterns, which was created in 1998 by a French company specializing in the trade fair.

"For now, I listen to what I said, this is how I see my role," said Ms. Bruni Sarkozy, attentive to the testimonies of the women in this poor neighbourhood.

A television crew followed the. Without flee or cameras or cameras, which this old queen of fashion a habit, the young woman did not appear to have specifically sought.

"But why do they need all the pictures?", She slipped her husband, apparently surprised by the interest that both are, and not just in the press "people".

Nicolas Sarkozy, the continuing decline in the polls is largely attributed to an excessive display of his private life, seems to want his wife gradually plays a political role alongside him.

In Chad Wednesday evening, he would receive, at the residence of France, the wife of an opponent missing since the rebel attack on N'Djamena, in early February.

And Friday, she accompanied to Johannesburg to meet Nelson Mandela, the first black president of South Africa and Nobel Peace Prize winner. In the morning, she had visited, along with her husband, the prison where anti-apartheid fighter had spent 18 years - including 13 to break rocks - on its 27 years' deprivation of liberty.

On the island, the young woman, who speaks fluent English, had listened with great attention to the guide, himself a former prisoner, the terrible conditions of detention of prisoners.

And Thursday night, and heard the South African President Thabo Mbeki and his presence bragging invite him to return to South Africa, without waiting for her husband to return, the "First Lady" smiled. It is Nicolas Sarkozy who replied: "Yes ... but it will come back with me."
