A new gas leak had been brought under control
A new gas leak was reported in downtown Lyon, Friday, February 29, around 12 am, before being brought under control quickly according to the prefecture of the Rhone. This new leak was close to the security perimeter established Thursday after the gas explosion, which killed one person and injured 40.
Firefighters reported shortly after noon that "the leak was reported at the level of street Garibaldi and Moncey, a hundred metres south of the explosion yesterday (Thursday). Finished."
Nearly 1000 residents evacuated
According to the prefecture, this immediately led to the evacuation of residents, but this operation "has affected few people." According to firefighters, individuals would have alerted the relief centre after "felt gas" in the neighborhood.
The security perimeter set up Thursday after the explosion should be maintained much of the day Friday.
The senior delegate to the security and defence, Xavier de Fürst, also went on the spot to take stock of the situation.
Thursday, nearly 1000 residents had been evacuated after the deadly explosion. Some of them were resettled by the authorities. It is still unclear how many people have been reunited in the future their homes.
